Elizabeth Davis - Shareholder, Murphy & McGonigle

Elizabeth Lan Davis is a member of the firm’s FinTech & Blockchain Practice, as well as the Commodities, Futures & Derivatives Practice. She brings deep litigation and regulatory experience, along with unique perspectives and insight, from her prior tenure at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), where she served as a Chief Trial Attorney in the Division of Enforcement. She also served for nine years at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Harris Kay is the Office Managing Partner of the firm's Chicago office and a member of the firm’s FinTech & Blockchain Practice.  He represents financial services firms, crypto exchanges and individuals in a wide range of registration, compliance, regulatory and litigation matters. Harris regularly defends participants in the securities and futures industries in federal and state court litigation and in CFTC registration proceedings.

 

Sergii Gerasymovych - CEO, Co-founder, EZ Blockchain

Sergii Gerasymovych serves as CEO and Co-founder of EZ Blockchain. He started his entrepreneurial journey after university. Capitalizing on his higher education in linguistics, Sergii started a translation/localization consulting service company catering to US businesses who wanted to go international. After that, he founded an online retail company, which he successfully sold. Working with clients in oil and gas, manufacturing, ecommerce, and software helped him to gain valuable experience in multiple industries. Energy and technology have always been his passion; Sergii accomplished his dream by merging those interests in founding EZ Blockchain.

 

Matthew Lisle - Director-Legal, Galaxy Digital

Matthew Lisle serves as Director – Legal for Galaxy Digital, with primary responsibility for the secured credit and derivatives trading operations, including managing NFA registered commodity pools.  Prior to that, he was General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at DrawBridge Lending. In addition, Matt spent five years as Chief Compliance Officer with ABN AMRO Clearing Chicago, LLC. His previous roles have included legal and compliance roles at two startup exchanges: Eurex US and NYSE Liffe US; General Counsel to the National Grain & Feed Assocation; and Staff Attorney for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

 

Daniel McCabe - Co-Founder, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Flexa

Daniel C. McCabe is co-founder, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer of Flexa, a digital payments network that makes accepting money fast, affordable, and completely fraud-proof for merchants all over the world. Prior to Flexa, he was a partner at Greensfelder Hemker & Gale in Chicago, where he served as outside general counsel for businesses in the technology and manufacturing sectors. During that time, his practice also focused on complex commercial litigation matters in the areas of financial services, intellectual property, and commercial contract litigation. Before that, he was Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Vanquish Capital Management, a private equity fund based in New York City.

 

Mauricio Beugelmans, Shareholder, Murphy & McGonigle. Moderator: Panel #2

Mr. Beugelmans serves as Office Managing Partner of the firm’s San Francisco office. He is also a member of FinTech & Blockchain Practice. Mauricio focuses his practice on serving financial institutions and blockchain companies in securities litigation, arbitration, employment, and regulatory proceedings. He previously served as in-house counsel at financial services companies Charles Schwab and Morgan Stanley.

 

Karl Cole-Frieman – Founder, Cole-Frieman & Mallon, LLP

Karl Cole-Frieman is Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Cole-Frieman & Mallon LLP, a boutique investment management law firm based in San Francisco. Prior to co-founding Cole-Frieman, Karl was General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Standard Pacific Capital, LLC, an SEC registered hedge fund manager in San Francisco with offices in New York, Hong Kong, and a sub-advisor in Tokyo. Before joining Standard Pacific, Karl was Associate General Counsel of Sagamore Hill Capital Management, L.P., a multi-strategy hedge fund in Greenwich, Connecticut. Prior to that, he was Vice President and Associate General Counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he was lead counsel for Loan Trading and Distressed Debt.

 

Howard Krieger – Managing Director, CBIZ Valuation Group  

Howard is a Managing Director in CBIZ Valuation Group, LLC, overseeing the practice’s New York office, with nearly 25 years of experience. He specializes in the valuation of digital assets, fixed income securities and complex financial instruments including convertible securities, warrants, options, embedded derivatives, swaps, leases, contractual arrangements, asset-backed securities (ABS), and collateralized obligations (CXOs). Howard is a former Big-4 Senior Manager responsible for a variety of assignments including intangible business valuation, intellectual property valuation, financial modeling, valuation of equity participating instruments and other exotic financial assets/liabilities.

 

Kayvan Sadeghi - Partner, Schiff Hardin

Kayvan is an accomplished trial and appellate lawyer with more than 17 years of experience in complex commercial and securities litigation, investigations, and enforcement proceedings. He is also an active member of the blockchain community, defending clients in securities litigation and enforcement proceedings, and advising on a variety of other litigation and regulatory issues. Kayvan is a member of the Legal Working Group of the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance, and has enjoyed teaching cryptocurrency litigation, enforcement, and regulation as part of a graduate-level Fintech course.

Matthew Comstock - Shareholder, Murphy & McGonigle. Moderator, Panel #3.

Mr. Comstock, a former lawyer at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, is a member of the firm’s FinTech & Blockchain Practice. He has a diverse practice covering the legal and regulatory aspects of securities trading and markets, including the application of securities regulation to digital assets issued on the blockchain and to technological developments in the securities industry more broadly. Matt regularly advises trading platforms, broker-dealers, clearing agencies, hedge funds and other clients on a variety of compliance, regulatory and transactional matters, and interfaces with the staff of the SEC and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients.

 

Alan Konevsky - Chief Legal Officer, tZERO Group, Inc. 

Alan Konevsky is the Chief Legal Officer of tZERO. He leads tZERO’s in-house team to drive global regulatory initiatives, strategic transactions, product development, corporate governance, compliance, commercial contracts, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, public policy and other critical aspects of the company’s businesses and operations. Alan also serves on the board of directors of Boston Security Token Exchange. Previously, he served as senior vice president, strategic initiatives and technology counsel at Mastercard.

 

Zach Dexter - CEO of Ledger X

Zach Dexter is CEO and co-founder at LedgerX, the first US-regulated bitcoin options platform. Zach developed and scaled the platform and custody system, and led all technical, systems, market surveillance, and controls aspects of the company's 3.5-year exchange and clearinghouse regulatory approval process. Zach is now leading the next phase of LedgerX's expansion into perpetual swaps, clearing for other exchanges, and international services. Zach serves on the CFTC Technology Advisory Committee Cybersecurity Subcommittee.
